Girlicious. Does that name ring a bell? Nic, Nat, Tiff, Chrys? Remember this ICONIC music video?
Or this?
Back in 2007, the Pussycat Dolls had a show where they were auditioning girls to become a 7th member of their group. They would put competitors through multiple improv challenges, group or solo performances, and then followed the tension and drama between the girls living in the same house. Every week, one girl would go home, and the last one standing would become the 7th member of the Pussycat Dolls.
Girlicious was born in the second season called “Pussycat Dolls Present: Girlicious”. Robin Antin, who is the creator of the Pussycat Dolls, chose 15 finalists to battle out who would be in the trio girl group. However at the end of the season, they decided to add 4 members to the group instead. Nichole Cordova, Tiffanie Anderson, Chrystina Sayers, and Natalie Mejia were the lucky chosen ones. They released their self titled album in Canada in 2008 through Geffen Records and it reached #2 on the Canadian Album Chart. In 2010, they signed with Universal Music Canada and released their second studio album “Rebuilt.”
And… here comes the sad part… Tiffanie left the group in June 2009 because she wasn’t seeing eye to eye with their music direction for their second album. Natalie and Chrystina lasted a couple of more years but left in 2011. Natalie was charged with a cocaine charge and was facing jail time, and Chrystina was done with all the drama within the group. That led Nichole by herself, but still performed on the Pussycat Dolls tour alongside Carmen Electra. After that she announced that Girlicious was over, and then they were dropped by their label.
Now if you’re a Canadian into pop music in 2007, then this show was EVERYTHING. I’d curl up late at night, turn on MuchMusic, and watch every episode… multiple times whenever it was on television. They performed Live @ Much and the MuchMusic Video Awards back in 2008. MuchMusic went on set for their music videos, released a documentary about them, and they had a Toronto Pride Show in 2010.
Where Are They Now?
Nichole Cordova
Nichole dabbled in acting, and was cast in a movie called “Bleed Out” which came out in 2011. She joined another girl group called “Girls United” and auditioned for the US version of The X-Factor in 2013. They didn’t make it very far and got eliminated in the knock-out rounds. They haven’t posted a YouTube video since 2014. She posted a video on Instagram captioned “playin w some vocals in the studio last night,” with no sight of the other members. The other members stopped posting photos with her in it as well. I guess the girls weren’t “United” too much after all…
In 2016, she got engaged to her boyfriend in Italy and posted a lot about traveling on her social media.
Chrystina Sayers
In 2012, it was announced that Chrystina would be joining the new line-up of the Pussycat Dolls, but plans fell through. She released her debut solo single called “Alive” in 2012, followed by her debut solo EP called “LEO” in 2016. She went on Instagram Live in 2018 teasing new music right before playing a show.
However, she deleted all her solo songs off streaming platforms and became a devout Christian and left Hollywood behind. She didn’t completely hang up her singing career, as she still posts gospel covers online. She got engaged in the fall of 2020.
Tiffanie Anderson
After leaving the group in 2009, she put her music career behind her and started painting self portraits of celebrities and athletes. In an article from “The Undefeated". She described her art as being a life saver.
“I was in Girlicious, and it was extremely stressful. It was very, very stressful. The music industry is very crooked. So, I was super stressed out. Something that I can do that will take my attention for a couple of hours, that isn’t about music. I was like, maybe I’ll start drawing again, I haven’t drawn since elementary school.”
Her first painting she did after leaving the group was an Obama painting. She was living in her car at one point transitioning from a pop artist, to a visual artist. Her first celebrity client was Ray J. She found out that he was going to be in a random location downtown so she painted a portrait of him in only two hours. She found him on the street, gave him her painting, and he posted it on Instagram.
Since then, she’s painted for celebrities like The Weeknd, Dr. Dre, Wiz Khalifa, and many more. Currently, her paintings are listed from $1,200 - $19,200 and currently has 108k followers on Instagram.
Natalie Mejia
Right before she left Girlicious, she was charged with a cocaine charge back in 2010. Cops found more than a dozen bags in her purse during a traffic stop. She pleaded guilty, avoiding jail time, if she stayed clean.
In 2011, she was a dancer in Pitbull’s music video “Give Me Everything” and was a backup dancer for his television performances including the Billboard Awards and Dancing With The Stars.
Natalie secured a spot as one of the five new Pussycat Dolls in 2012. However she left after 5 months of being a member when she got pregnant with her first child (with her ex husband).
In 2014, she returned into the music industry with her sisters Jazzy and Taylor called “The Mejia Sisters". The group didn’t last long and split up shortly after. She released a solo E.P called “L.O.V.E” (Living On Vibrational Energy) in 2016.
In 2017, she got married again and has had two more kids since then. She recently started posting on Instagram again focusing on her faith and her children. She’s still continuing to make music and released a music video in 2020
Is A Reunion In The Works???
I can only hope at this point. In 2017, Nichole, Tiffanie and Natalie reunited and posted these photos on Instagram:
Natalie responded to a fans' comment about a reunion recently but Chrystina looks like she wants nothing to do with the three other girls.
Fingers crossed a reunion will be in the books, and I’ll be front and center if they ever play a show in Toronto.
